The Olympic and Paralympic icons are used to great effect on the Class 395 model which also includes a specially prepared TrakMat featuring some venues of the London 2012 Games. Both the power cars have lights which operate in the direction of travel and all together creates a very exciting spectacle as it traverses the track included in the set. Age from 8 years.

Commuter travel entered a new age during 2009 when the sleek and revolutionary Hitachi Class 395 entered service. This new state of the art train with its twin power source motors quickly became the train of choice for those commuters who use the Southeastern service to London every day, saving those in the extremities of the service as much as 30 minutes or more of travel time. The specially prepared three vehicle model in this set is resplendent in the distinctive blue livery of the prototype and is justifiably named the 'Blue Rapier'. Additional Railroad coaches are available to extend the train to a full 6 car unit. Both power and dummy cars have headlights that operate in the direction of travel. The track circuit fits easily on the 1600 x 1280 mm MidiMat and by adding Hornby Track Packs and accessory packs can soon be developed into a very effective model railway layout. Before the development of the British motorway system millions of letters were shipped from town to town by railway. Many of these mail trains travelled at night and included a TPO (Travelling Post Office) coach in which bags of letters and small parcels were collected, sorted and then dropped off in bags at the relevant stations along the route. This set not only includes an eye catching 0-6-0 locomotive but also a TPO and support brake coach. The 'net' projects from the coach to scoop the mailbag from the trackside pick-up hook. The bag is then automatically ejected into the trackside receiving bin at the place of delivery.
