Aechmea 'Blue Rain' 15cm Pot
Item number PC7AL
Aechmea 'Blue Rain' 15cm PotA relative of the pineapple, bromeliads are naturally epiphytes, clinging to other plants for support in their native jungles where they attract hummingbirds as pollinators - so this is a truly exotic houseplant. Bromeliads grow in a rosette with a cup in the centre into which rainwater collects and helps deliver nutrients to the plant - much in the same was as insect-eating pitcher plants. When mature, Blue Rain will produce an amazing, spear-like flowerhead covered in blue and white flowers which contrast beautifully against the red stem. These blooms, due to their waxy nature will last for many months, bringing a burst of colour wherever it's placed. Like other members of the family, the long-lived blooms are produced just once and then the central part will slowly expire, however, offsets are produced in the process which replace it, and over time a clump of plants develop with the potential for multiple flowers. Really easy to care for, you just need to treat your bromeliad as if it were still in a jungle, watering in the cup with rainwater where possible (hard tap water tends to leave an unsightly crust of limescale around the cup). Supplied as an established plant in a 15cm pot. Ultimate height and width 40 x 40cm.
