Aechmea 'Blue Rain' 15cm Pot

A relative of the pineapple, bromeliads are naturally epiphytes, clinging to other plants for support in their native jungles where they attract hummingbirds as pollinators - so this is a truly exotic houseplant. Bromeliads grow in a rosette with a cup in the centre into which rainwater collects and helps deliver nutrients to the plant - much in the same was as insect-eating pitcher plants. When mature, Blue Rain will produce an amazing, spear-like flowerhead covered in blue and white flowers which contrast beautifully against the red stem. These blooms, due to their waxy nature will last for many months, bringing a burst of colour wherever it's placed. Like other members of the family, the long-lived blooms are produced just once and then the central part will slowly expire, however, offsets are produced in the process which replace it, and over time a clump of plants develop with the potential for multiple flowers. Really easy to care for, you just need to treat your bromeliad as if it were still in a jungle, watering in the cup with rainwater where possible (hard tap water tends to leave an unsightly crust of limescale around the cup). Supplied as an established plant in a 15cm pot. Ultimate height and width 40 x 40cm.
