Castanospermum australe Moreton Bay Chesnut 12cm Pot

Looking not unlike an ornamental fig tree sprouting from magic bean seeds (hence the name Jack's Beanstalk Tree), the Moreton Bay Chestnut (Castanospermum australe) is an unusual house plant which originates in the coastal rainforests of Australia and the Pacific Islands. Grown for its glossy leaves, plants can also produce clusters of orangy-yellow pea-shaped flowers in summer if it's happy where it it's situated followed by 'pea-pods' of bean-shaped seeds. In the wild, this evergreen tree can reach over 40m (130 ft) tall, but in the UK and in a pot, it's much easier to handle and can be controlled much like a bonsai by keeping the plant in a relatively small pot and shaping with pruning and training. Easy to grow, and perfect for kids and novice gardeners, it appreciates a sunny spot, out of direct sunlight, and can even go outside in the summer. Grown with the `bean¿ still attached to its base, it will naturally dry up and separate from the plant in several months and can be removed without any effect to the plant. Supplied as an established plant in a 13cm pot, plants will reach 1-3m. Note: Decorative pot in images is for display purposes only and is not supplied
