Tillandsia oerstediana 12cm Pot
Item number PC79G
Tillandsia oerstediana 12cm PotA magnificent bromeliad that produces a dramatic spike of tiered apple-green blooms over grey-green, strappy leaves, this is a houseplant that can't fail to impress wherever you choose to display it. A relative of the pineapple, Tillandsia bromeliads cling to other plants for support as they grow in their native jungles, and their roots are naturally adapted for this purpose. So, to get nutrients they have adapted to grow waxy leaves which funnel rainwater to a central cup and helps deliver nutrients to the plant - much in the same was as insect-eating pitcher plants. This does mean though that they are really easy to care for, and you just need to treat your bromeliad as if it were still in a jungle, watering in the cup with rainwater where possible (hard tap water tends to leave an unsightly crust of limescale around the cup). Tillandsia blooms, due to their waxy nature, will last for many months - up to 6 - bringing a long-lived burst of colour wherever your plant is placed. Like other members of the family, the flower is produced just once and then the central part of the plant will slowly expire, producing offsets to replace it. Over time a clump of plants develops with the potential for multiple flowers. Supplied as an established plant in a 12cm pot. Ultimate height and width 60cm x 40cm. Note: Decorative pot in images is for display purposes only and is not supplied.
